A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday that China is urging Australia to take China's concerns seriously and take concrete actions to correct its mistakes.
Spokesman Zhao Li Jian made the remarks at a daily press conference while answering a question regarding comments made by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on bilateral relations.
"We have said many times that the main reason for the deteriorating relations between China and Australia is Australia's repeated wrongful actions and remarks on issues relating to China's core interests and major concerns, as well as Australia's provocative and confrontational actions," Zhao said.
The Australian side should recognize the essence of the problem, take China's concerns seriously, and take concrete actions to correct its mistakes, Zhao added.
Zhao stressed that mutual respect is the basic principle of state-to-state relations.
"We firmly oppose actions that undermine the interests of other countries in the name of protecting self-interests and imposing a state's will on other countries under the pretext of protecting their own values," Zhao said.
