People with disabilities to obtain a driver's license in Bahrain

The General Traffic Department has retrained persons with disabilities to obtain a private driver's license in accordance with an agreement concluded with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development after the previous agreement with the Bahraini Center for International Mobility, which lasted eight years, expired.

According to the new agreement, persons with disabilities are now able to obtain a driver’s license from the Driving Education Department of the General Traffic Department, according to codified terms and conditions, including that the request be from persons with physical or hearing disabilities enrolled in a disability compensation system in the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.

The signing of the agreement is based on the provisions of Law No. 74 of 2006 regarding the care, rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities, and Law No. 23 of 2014 issuing the Traffic Law, and a desire to enhance cooperation and joint coordination and implementation of the provisions of the law for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, and to facilitate the services provided to them.

From March 1, persons with disabilities will be able to obtain driver's licenses, provided that the trainee exceeds 22 hours of practical training in the driving education department of the General Traffic Department.

With this decision, many girls will be able to apply for traffic management and training to obtain a driver’s license.

The Traffic Department allocates special parking for persons with disabilities in various public and private parking spaces, imposes violations on those who exploit their private consent, and warns of misuse.
