Omani Heritage and Culture Minister Haitham bin Tariq Saturday took the oath after his appointment as Sultan of Oman to succeed his late cousin Qaboos bin Saeed, according to what the government announced.
And the Omani government said in a tweet, "Sultan Haitham Bintarik bin Taimur Al Said performs the oath as the authority of the country, following the convening of the royal family council and its report confirmation of who was recommended by Sultan Qaboos bin Said."
The Council of Oman held an emergency session at its headquarters in Al Bustan, where the oath was performed.
And local media reported on Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, his affirmation to move forward on the noble approach of Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed in the development and progress of the Sultanate.
It is noteworthy that the new Sultan of Oman assumed the position of Minister of Culture and Heritage since 2002, and he held positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between 1986 and 2002.
Sultan Qaboos bin Said had died at dawn on Saturday, and the royal court in Oman called him, declaring mourning and disrupting the official work of the public and private sectors for a period of 3 days, as well as flagging flags in the next forty days.
While the Omani Defense Council called in an open session, the Royal Family Council to determine who to transfer the mandate to rule after the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed.
